21, standing out in the colour of my childhood...

"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world.
But it takes people to make the dream a reality."

My 21st birthday has come and gone in a blur of organisation and excitement.
The whole event only came together due to a massive effort from my Mom and Aunt and various other helpers.
Certainly took hard work from multiple people to make the dream a reality.

One job I had all to myself was the creation of the birthday outfit.
The theme for the party; Black and White, stemmed from a vision I had of everyone wearing black and white
and there being a bright pop of colour whenever I entered the scene. It's an important birthday, why not stand out?
With this vision in  mind I went fabric shopping and fell in love with a bright textured silk fabric in lime green and pink.
I returned home with some swatches and spent an evening sketching some ideas, and after much thought settled on the bright pink
(flattering and a history with the colour cemented this decision).
Though I couldn't leave the lime at the store alone!
So I got some of that too, it's just waiting for some love and a project to compliment it :).

Anyway, after working on this garment for a couple of weeks each day after uni
(and right up to 1am the day of the party!) it was finished and I was very happy with the result.

My Uncle set up a real professional photo-booth area
(with my dream SLR camera, incredible lens, studio lighting and remote control; jealousy!).
So everyone had a lot of fun with that, including the props.
But I've included a photo Ellen and I took (sans pink mustaches) you'll probably see some more of her outfit soon :).
