Gucci Double G Belt Review - Is It Worth $600?
In today’s post I’ll be reviewing the iconic Gucci Double G Leather Belt and telling you if I think it’s worth the money! I purchased it at the beginning of the year while travelling in Italy and, spoiler alert, I still absolutely love it. Today I’m breaking down the history of the belt, my thoughts on the quality and shharing how often I’ve been wearing it.
The history
When it comes to luxury shopping, I do a lot of research into the item I’m buying - I don’t just cough up hundreds of dollars for just any old thing! One of the first things I thought about when I was wanting to purchase this belt was if this was going to be a classic item that I could have in my wardrobe for years. Surprisingly, when I started looking into it, this little belt has quite the history.
Gucci has been making belts since its founding in 1921 and the double-g logo was first introduced in the 1960s. This specific belt made its debut in the fall 2015 collection and for me, seeing an item that’s remained on trend for over four years is always a good sign.
While other trendy items come and go, this belt has continued to grow in popularity since 2015. For two years it has ranked amongst the top ten items on the Lyst Index — a website that analyses the purchasing of fashion online. You see this belt around more often than any Hermes, Louis Vuitton or Chanel belts - and those are some heavy-hitting brands to compete with, further proving this is a style that will stick.
The Quality
After wearing this belt numerous times a week since I purchased it in February, it still looks immaculate. I’ve had no issues with the belt getting damaged and I’d say it looks basically brand new! The leather is soft and beautiful, but still hard-wearing and I haven’t had an issue with it scratching like I’ve had with some of my designer leather bags. When it comes to the gold buckle, I was a little worried about it scratching. Now, looking at it very closely, I can see the odd light scratch, but it’s honestly hardly noticeable and I wouldn’t have seen it if I wasn’t looking.
When you’re purchasing a luxury item and paying a premium price tag, you expect the items to wear and last well. With some of my designer purchases, I haven’t been so lucky but this belt I would say has definitely lived up to my high standards. It certainly makes me want to revisit Gucci again and purchase something else!
Styling it
So, how does one wear a Gucci belt? Is it really that versatile? What I’ve come to love most about this belt over the past few months is that it goes with everything and can totally transform an outfit. My favourite trick is pairing it with a cheap Zara dress or even an item that I’ve picked up from the thrift store. The moment you pair the cheaper pieces in your wardrobe with a designer item like this belt, your entire outfit instantly looks so chic and on-trend.
If I had to choose between this belt and my Louis Vuitton handbag, I think I’d quite shockingly choose the belt! I’ve just gotten so much wear out of it and think it goes with countless outfits. I love wearing it over dresses like pictured in this post but it also works great with skirts and high-waisted pants, plus for something super edgy, I love styling it over the top of a blazer or coat.
