Battle with the trend; to ignore, follow or lead?

"Don't follow a trend. Follow your heart."

Trends are something you see everyday, taking over the image of the masses.
As a follower of fashion blogs (local and international) it's always interesting to see which trends make it down under
 and the masses swarm to.
It's especially amusing to see what some of the University students adopt as their new uniform,
as if they couldn't bear to look different to their peers after leaving the enforced dress codes of high school.
Even though I am aware of what the in thing to be wearing here at the moment I feel like I look at so many inspirational bloggers online I often get confused as to
what is fashionable and what is not.
So when I dont have a specific inspiration I sort of end up wearing a mishmash of whatever I feel like wearing,
in the hopes it turns out alright.
Oh the dilemma; how to be on trend, unique, comfortable all at the same time?

Magnetic nail polish - Sally Hansen "polar purple".
Magnetic nail polish has been called the next shatter in nail polish trends.
I'm yet to see this trend on the fingers of every adolescent and student, so maybe not? or maybe NZ is just a bit behind.
But for now this trend has totally won me over (partially by appealing to the little/large geek within).
This cool polish works via the metallic particles that are infused into the colour.
So at the first coat at all appears one flat glittery colour.
But after you apply the second thicker coat and hold the magnet over it all changes!
The metallic particles are attracted to the magnet in the cap (which is in the shape of waves)
so the particles move through the coat towards these waves,
leaving a 3D wave pattern in the nail as the particles are a different colour.
I can  just see the little particles in the magnetic field swimming through the rest of the polish.

So what do you think? Could this be a new trend or just something for those that have a love for it?
How many of you fellow bloggers feel pressure to have the latest and soon to be best new trend for every post?
